Using Video on Your Website

Posted by Nick Boy
Brook Cottage Media produces video for many clients in sectors including business, charity and community groups and the most common means of delivery is as a web video, designed to be included on the clients website.

Choosing where and how to use video on your website can be tricky, so here’s our advice on getting the most from your video content. Our prices start at just £195 for charity and community groups and £299 for businesses.

1. As an Introduction
Video is a powerful tool, so why not use it at the top of your homepage and maximise it’s impact? An introductory style video is typically quickly paced, packs in plenty of information and shows the full range of your services. Aim for around 2 - 3 minutes as a maximum length. As with all video content it’s worth spending some time integrating it nicely with your site, either by pointing visitors towards watching it in the text or with an image.

2. Product Instructions
What better way to show your potential customers how simple it is to install or work with your products than with video. Scripted and shot to make the processes look as simple as possible, whilst ensuring the product in question always looks as good as they can. The most obvious positioning is on the product page itself, but videos like this work really nicely on frequently asked question pages or even contact pages.

3. Client Testimonials
It’s well known that online shoppers trust and like to see reviews from previous customers and a client testimonial video is, in our opinion, the very best way of demonstrating your clients faith in you. This kind of video could be used on your home page, or on a testimonial page.

4. Frequently Asked Questions
If you already have an FAQ page it could be improved with video content. Explain complex solutions and actually show your customers how to fix common issues. This could reduce the need for customers to contact you and make your FAQ page more friendly and engaging.

5. Video Prospectus
For educational establishments attracting new students is key. When compared to traditional text based prospectuses video content gives potential students a far deeper sense of what they will get from your courses and what to expect from the establishment. Each video is a natural way to enhance your course information pages, and together can be used to form a video prospectus page.

6. Video Blogging
Blogs, like our very own Brook Cottage Media blog are an increasingly common and popular way of building your online profile and video content can be even more benificial to your search engine results and audience impact. A video blog gives you the chance to establish yourself as an expert in the field, instilling faith in your company, and are put to best use when covering a broad range of subjects related to your work/ industry, not just your own products and services.

7. Charity Appeal
We make video affordable for all purposes and we really enjoy being able to support local charities. An appeal video gives potential donors all the information they need and makes the cause as visible and obvious as possible. Best used when pushed out across the internet - YouTube/ Facebook etc as well as on your own website.
